I have just completed a Sitecore upgrade from 10.0.0 to 10.3.1, even though 10.4 was released 2 weeks prior to push the upgrade into Production. However, the release of 10.4 has allowed me to look into something that was really interesting. It is the compatibility of Sitecore Identity Server, which is used for Content Authors to login to Sitecore for Content Editing and Authoring.

The compatibility table from Sitecore, has shown that Sitecore Identity Server 7.x is supported from 10.0 all the way up to 10.4.

Sitecore Compatibility Table for Sitecore Identity

With the release of 10.4 and an updated Sitecore Identity compare with 10.3, it makes sense to just use the latest and greatest. And it works as promised.

As Steve Jobs used to say… It Just Works….

The rationale behind this decision, for my team at least, is that there were various security vulnerabilities that were found previously, specifically for Sitecore Identity. Hence, it just makes sense to go with the latest and greatest that is compatible. The Sitecore Identity is also a module that can operate on its own without depending on other Sitecore roles, as it really acts as an Authentication gateway for various Sitecore products / platforms.
